Lymm Twin Town Society

Lymm Twin Town Society
What is the Twin Town Society

Lymm has been twinned with MEUNG-SUR-LOIRE for over 50 years. Meung is a delightful small town about 10 miles west of Orléans in the Loire valley, an hour south of Paris. In Lymm we hold social events during the year both to keep in touch with each other and raise money for the visit of our counterparts from France.

The highlight of the year is the Exchange visit. This is when when either the people from Lymm or Meung-Sur-Loire will host their guests from the visiting country.

After a 3 year break that was forced by Covid the exchange with Meung-sur-Loire resumed. We spent a happy but exhausting few days with our hosts in Meung. There was hardly a minute to spare between organised events. The weather was glorious, that helped also.

If this is something you feel that you might like to be part then new members are always welcome. You can always come along and meet us at our social events before you consider joining in an Exchange visit. For more details about the society, membership and events use the contact us tab on this site.

For information about how the exchange visits are organised please see the Previous Exchanges page on this site.

Film Night - Sunday 2nd October
au revoir la-haut.jpg

Our French film night is on Sunday 2nd October at the Youth and Community Centre, (downstairs), doors open 6:40 for a 7pm start. This event is open to non-members. We will be offering a slice of cake with a drink (tea/coffee/wine) afterwards.

Entrance is free, but we need to know numbers for catering. If you are responding to this advert in our Website then you must contact us first to reserve your place.

We will be accepting voluntary donations towards the cost of the event. So please bring along some cash!

The film will be Au Revoir Là-Haut ("See You Up There" was the English title). It will be in French with English subtitles. It is described as a black comedy inspired by actual scandalous events from the final days of WW1 and the year or two thereafter. It was recommended to us by more than one French friend. A brief synopsis follows:

In November 1918, a few days before the Armistice, Edouard Péricourt saves Albert Maillard's life. The two men have nothing in common but the war. Lieutenant Pradelle, by ordering a senseless assault, destroys their lives while binding them as companions in misfortune. On the ruins of the carnage of WWI, condemned to live, the two attempt to survive. Thus, as Pradelle is about to make a fortune by using war victims, Albert and Edouard mount a monumental scam with the bereaved families' commemoration and with a nation's hero worship.
